Pay Transparency Update

Good news for those in NYC!


The amended NYC Pay Range Disclosure Law goes into effect today (November 1, 2022)!


This means that employers are now required to list wage or salary ranges on job advertisements.


Why is this good news?

Pay secrecy, and the idea that "you don't talk about salary" is significantly instrumental in propagating pay disparity (which we already know to disproportionately affect women of color).


Studies show that women of color are more likely to receive low ball offers from companies. If companies are required by law to be transparent about salary, then they are less likely to make such offers and applicants are less likely to accept them.
